Sex Toy Care 101

How do I take care of my toy?

It is very important to sterilize your toy prior to your first use. There are different methods of doing so depending on what material your toy is made of. There are also different methods of maintenance for each material.

Pyrex/glass toys:  We chose to carry Pyrex glass sex toys on because it is non-porous, easy to clean and very durable. Fear not, for Pyrex is a type of glass that is much stronger and less breakable than regular glass, which makes it safe to use as a pleasure object.

As mentioned before, Pyrex is super easy to clean! Prior to your first use, simply use gentle soap and warm water and wash thoroughly. You can also clean it using the dishwasher! It is important to note to NOT use abrasive cleaners as to not scratch, or damage the surface of the toy.

For maintenance, wash with soap and water before and after each use.

It is important to regularly inspect your toy thoroughly for chips, cracks and scratches. This will avoid the harbouring of harmful bacteria and possible infections.

Glass is easy to store as it doesn't get affected by contacts with other materials. That said, it is a good idea to keep it wrapped up in a soft material bag, sock, scarf, whatever you may choose, inside a drawer.

Metal/stainless steel/surgical steel toys: We chose to carry toys made of these materials because they are pretty much indestructible! They are also low-maintenance and long lasting. The fact that they are non-porous is a HUGE asset for us because it makes them easy to clean and reduce the risk of infections.

You may boil your metal toy to sterilize it, or even dishwasher WITHOUT any dishwasher soap, as they are harsh and may damage your toy.

For maintenance, wash with soap and water before and after each use. Dry thoroughly.

Silicone toys: We chose to carry medical grade, hypoallergenic, silicone toys for so many different reasons! They are rapidly growing in popularity as a material for sex toys lately. This may be due to the fact that it is nonporous and very easy to clean. Due to these wonderful assets, silicone sex toys tend to be a bit pricier than traditional latex or “jelly” type ones. They are also very durable and will last a very long time, which in the end, will actually save you money as there won't be the need to replace them as often. Most of the silicone toys we carry have a warranty of 1-3 years. However, most of them, with proper TLC may last MUCH longer (and a little easier on the environment).

You can sterilize your silicone sex toy by boiling it on the stove (3-5 minutes). Please note this ONLY applies to buttplugs and dildos, NEVER toys with rechargeable connection or batteries. It can also be cleaned in the dishwasher if it does not have mechanical components. Another way to clean your silicone sex toy or vibrator is with warm soapy water. In fact, that's the only way we recommend washing them as we have yet to find a sex toy cleaner which consists of entirely body-safe ingredients.

A general rule of thumb to maximize toy durability is to only use water-based lubes. This will help maximize toy durability and maintain proper texture. We like Sliquid, Hathor Aphrodisia, Good Clean Love and Blossom Organics,

Silicone toys need to be stored properly, away from contact with any other sex toys. This is because the construction or materials in the other sex toys can cause damage or changes to the surface of your silicone sex toy if they touch while stored away. This is why most companies that sell high quality silicone toys include a storage pouch/bag or box in the toy's packaging.
